Last week Congressional Democrats proposed their own demise without knowing it. In their frustration to end the war in Iraq they wanted to wake up stupid American people to the war's true cost with a progressive yearly tax that would pay for the war as it is prosecuted or fought. Here's what CNN said:
"Top House Democrats Tuesday proposed a "war surtax" to pay for the war in Iraq, a plan quickly condemned by Republicans and opposed by the House leadership. Rep. Dave Obey Tuesday said the surtax is a way for "this generation" to pay for the Iraq war. The surtax would be "a percentage of your tax bill," said House Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Obey, D-Wisconsin. "And if you don't like the cost, then shut down the war."
So far the war has cost about $800 Billion or about $2,666 per American or about $6398 per year per household. One has to assume a new yearly tax of $6398 per household would end the war rather quickly, which is exactly why the gov't wouldn't dare levy such a tax. It's entirely too democratic for Americas to be aware of the cost of American gov't. Gov't expenses must be hidden from the people so the politicians are free do what they are sure is right on behalf of stupid Americans. And it makes perfect sense too. After all, humanity has profited so much from political leaders hasn't it? It makes you wonder what on earth Jefferson had in mind when he reversed all of human history by founding America exclusively to have freedom from its would-be political leaders?
But why do these newly chastened, freedom loving, opportunistic Democrats stop with a war tax? Why not tax everything in a way designed to elucidate the true cost of what gov't is doing for them at any given time? To that end, they could replace all the various taxes from the excise tax, to the import tax, withholding tax, sales tax, property tax, income tax, corporate tax, inflation tax, and gas tax, with one big and very obvious tax. This year all Federal taxation will amount to $10,800 per person or about $26,000 per family. If you add state and local taxation, the consolidated gov't bill sent to every American family would be about $50,000 per family per year. Wouldn't it be just so lovely to bring an instant end to the insouciantly levied Democrat taxes by merely showing them to the American people? But of course the Democrats would never let that happen.
Further, if they did eliminate the withholding tax (so Americans got to see and touch their money the way most businesses do, before sending it off to the Democrats ) and if they moved tax day from April 15th to election day, Americans would vote with a totally new Republican mentality for sure. But, Democrats obviously won't extend their war tax because it would make somnambulant Americans aware of the Nazi-like deception and arrogance with which anti American Democrats steal their money through an infinite variety of mostly hidden and seemingly painless taxes so as to subvert the most fundamental ideals of their country. America was created by Jefferson to provide mankind with freedom from Democrats, not to provide a stealthy enslavement to their contemptuous, and now seemingly ineluctable leadership, wasn't it?
It is a fact that Jefferson's greatest rival was Adams whom he feared and hated for his royalist, Anti American big gov't tendencies. It wasn't until the election of 1800 (the second American Revolution) that Jefferson was able to set in motion the Republican ship of state to make clear that the Revolution wasn't just a revolution against the English gov't but also a revolution against gov't,(what we now call Democrats) in general. One consolidated tax bill from the gov't each year would instantly reestablish his legacy. Moreover, the non withholding, consolidated tax bill rendered on election day would be so American and so forthright that it would almost certainly kill off the Democrats instantly just as Jefferson already did at the founding of American History, a time that turned out to be the founding of civilized World History.

Gore Loses Nobel,Oscar,and Emmy
When Al Gore recently pointed out that, "global warming is not a political issue, it's a moral issue" he was encouraging and attempting to confirm the religiosity of the global warming crusade, and of the Democrats who are increasingly embracing it with religious fervor. After all, morality, and the raw emotions it engenders, are far more central to religious beliefs than to political, economic, or philosophical beliefs, aren't they?
The big problem is that religion is mostly about blind faith; not reason. If you are among the Socratic, Platonic, Republican minority who have faith that the planet should be managed with reason you have to be concerned about why the public face of the global warming crusade (Gore and his documentary - An Inconvenient Truth) have just been determined to be propaganda by a British High Court, and, whether most of the Democratic Party that embraces Gore and his film, is based on propaganda and religious faith too. Here, via The Heartland Institute, is what the British High Court said about Al Gore's moral vision:
"Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, represents 'partisan political views' and must be treated as such by teachers in British schools, a British High Court judge has indicated. "The British court was swayed by numerous factual inaccuracies portrayed in the movie. Among them:
-- The film claims global warming is responsible for the gradual retreat of the alpine glacier atop Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro. Scientists have conclusively demonstrated no such link exists.-- The film presents graphs indicating that fluctuating carbon dioxide levels have always preceded and caused global temperature fluctuations. In fact, temperature changes have always preceded carbon dioxide changes.
-- The film suggests global warming caused Hurricane Katrina. Few hurricane experts believe this, and substantial scientific evidence indicates global warming is having no impact on hurricane frequency or intensity.
-- The film asserts global warming is causing Central Africa's Lake Chad to dry up. In fact, land use practices are causing the drying up of Lake Chad, and Central Africa is in an unusual and prolonged wet period.
-- The film asserts global warming is leading to polar bear deaths by drowning. Yet the only documented drowning deaths occurred due to a freak storm, and polar bear numbers are growing substantially.

-- The film asserts global warming is causing the destruction of coral reefs through bleaching. Scientists have identified other causes for coral bleaching and have additionally noted bleaching is a natural process by which coral continually selects ideal symbiotic algae.
-- The film asserts Greenland is in danger of rapid ice melt that will raise sea levels by 20 feet or more. The scientific consensus is that any foreseeable Greenland ice melt will be gradual and will take centuries to substantially raise sea levels.
-- The film asserts the Antarctic ice shelf is melting. In fact, only a small portion of Antarctica is getting warmer and losing ice mass, while the vast majority of Antarctica is in a prolonged cold spell and is accumulating ice mass."
Also highlighted in court arguments was Al Gore's admission in Grist Magazine that 'I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations (big fat lies?) on how dangerous it [global warming] is.' "As a result of the partisan political nature of Gore's film, schoolteachers will not be allowed to show the movie without telling their students the film is scientifically controversial.
"The British High Court properly recognized that Al Gore's movie is nine parts political propaganda and one part science. Virtually every assertion that Gore makes in the movie has been strongly contradicted by sound science. "The British court decision should guide teachers in the U.S. to similarly treat Gore's movie as the inaccurate and misleading propaganda tool that it is."
So that makes two major losses for the hapless Gore in the courts: one in this country during the last Presidential election, and now one in England because of his hyperbolic, Machiavellian tactics. But, if Gore still really believes we are experiencing what he calls "a planetary emergency" and that England could be frozen solid by the disruption of northward flowing warm ocean currents, in the next 10 years, as he claimed in his film, isn't it his duty to run for President so he can maximize our exposure to his doomsday theory? Would he at least show up to debate the issue? He never has? To Gore, and most Democrats, democracy is not a debate, it is slogans, bullying, silly movies, and 30 second TV commercials in support of mere feelings, because in the end they are not bright enough to comprehend the difference between thinking and feeling.
The Democrat candidates all say they believe Gore is a visionary but oddly none has a proposal to save the planet; in fact, they don't mention it much except in passing, let alone as a "planetary emergency" about which they would then be obligated to offer "emergency" solutions. So isn't it Gore's civic duty to run, if he really believes himself? Gore has said, in fact, "if I'm doing my job, all of them (Democrat Presidential candidates) will make it their top issue". Well, they haven't made it their top issue!
Moreover, shouldn't he not only run, but also encourage a law to the affect that all coal plants in America be shut down immediately, and that our entire cruise missile fleet be targeted at new Chinese coal plants that are scheduled to produce enough new pollution over the next 30 years to equal that which would be produced by 80 times more cars than in the entire American automobile fleet? England helped us in Iraq didn't it; so how can Al Gore stand by, idly encouraging a few of us to feel pious about driving hybrids, while jolly old England freezes to a sudden death?
If the acclivity of the hockey stick graph that Gore has made so popular is legitimate, there is not a second to waste, it would seem? But perhaps most human beings have not become fully hysterical because, while they may narcissistically enjoy the religious camaraderie of it all, they know that religious faith frees them from the burden of learning the truth, and the discipline of living with all the uncertain ramifications of it? Perhaps too, they are somewhat calmed when they read that warming started at the end of the Little Ice Age (around 1800, when you could walk to Staten Island in winter) and not in 1900 when carbon production began to increase dramatically.
Similarly, no truth is more obvious from human history than that socialism doesn't work, while Republican free market, supply side, capitalism does; yet Democrats embrace socialism as morally superior? They do it with such enthusiasm that one might even call them, moral bigots. How can it be possible that even the vast majority of college professors don't notice that China and the USSR gave up on trying to make socialism work or that Havana is still crowded with '58 Chevys precisely because on Jan. 1st, 1959 Castro and the sainted Che, fresh from the Upper West Side, took over? Simple: socialism, red or green, provides the opportunity for an alternative new anti-American God, and attendant apostolic professoriat. In this case it is a green socialist or global warming God who offers a new form of religious camaraderie for those who find the exaction from Republican freedom too difficult to learn and bear.
It's not so strange really. History is, after all, the story of how mankind's failed leaders and Gods tricked us in every age, in every place, again and again, with every bizarre rationale ever imagined, into surrendering our freedom to them. In all of history, only Jefferson and the Republicans have had the wisdom and courage to resist them.

Flip Flopping on Torture.. and Everything Else Too
It seems that these days the Democrats have flip flopped on most of their major positions. They have given Bush pretty much what he wants on all the things about which they claimed to be so piously angry: torture, eavesdropping , Habeas Corpus, and ending the war. Hillary, and all but one of her opponents, now concede that they will be keeping the troops in Iraq at least through the full length of their first term in office by which time, of course, they will be fully responsibility for the outcome of the war and the regional aftermath, much to George Bush's delight.
Hillary had long made a habit of shouting, "If George Bush doesn't end this war before he leaves office...when I'm president, I will,". Then Bush called her up on the phone and suggested that the situation was fluid, she didn't know what she would inherit, and it was best not to foreclose on all her options, some of which she might need very badly depending on how the situation in Iraq and the region evolves. Hillary, in true invertebrate fashion, took the advice, and now all the angry Democrats have no real candidate to show for 8 years of angry screaming.
When you are a Democrat with no philosophy or ideology you can well afford to be fluid in your thinking since there is no system of reasoning to which you are accountable. The huge Iraq flip flop is but one example. Let's not forget Welfare, to pick the domestic policy end of the vaunted Democratic social safety net. The Democrats were sure they could help Blacks but when after 40 years of the near genocide it produced was enough they quickly abandoned it under Republican duress.
Then they merely went on to look for other targets of opportunity most of which turned out like Welfare and Iraq because they were based on expediency or opportunism rather than coherent ideology. Describing their constant non ideological behavior as treasonous is not unreasonable given how ideological the founding of America was. That Democrats merely exist does mean that they should exist, does it?
The most recent example of the total Democratic ideological vacuum is Hillary's new entitlement program. Realizing that the idiotic, ill conceived, Marxist, Democrat social safety net is not there and never will be despite the trillions and trillions of dollars already committed, she has proposed a private account entitlement that each American would be given at birth free of gov't interference (so it won't be totally wasted by Democrats) exactly like the Social Security private accounts she so vehemently opposed when they were proposed by the Republicans? The gov't already taxes and spends $50,000 per year per family; so is her latest proposal a matter of extending the losing socialist ideology still further in the blind, stupid hope that one day America will be to first country on earth to make socialism work , or is it just a matter of buying more votes? Tragically, it appear to be some of both, and worse, Hillary claims to have many such ideas.
In contrast, with a pro American, pro democracy ideology, to George Bush the torture issue, for example, was simple: if someone was going to blow up an American city and kill millions or even cut off one American's head, it was worth it to torture him on the chance it might be stopped. But in the abstract, where most of us live, the Democrats saw an opportunity since torture is cruel and nasty and , in a sophomoric sense, seemingly not consistent with America's high ideals. As long as they could keep the focus on that and not on the reality of Nick Berg's or Daniel Pearl's heads as they were slowly being cut off on video tape for their whole families and nation to see, they could score points on the Bush ideology, and to a large extent they, treasonously, have.
To capitalize on the anti-Republican opportunism in their torture argument, Democrats to this day are fond of pointing out that torture doesn't work anyway simply because someone being tortured would naturally be inclined to make up false information to avoid further torture. The implication is that those nasty Republicans just love to torture people for no reason at all- a good smear indeed if you have neither decency nor ideology with which to comfort yourself.
Of course, empirical logic would have it another way. If someone could successfully lie to evade torture then NYC would have been evacuated 999 times by now at a cost of billions of dollars and thousands of lives. But oddly that did not happen; apparently because interrogators, geniuses one and all, seem to have anticipated that most human beings might lie to avoid being tortured. Duh?
In reality, most cases require that you torture someone over time (hence the longevity Gitmo) to gain an incremental piece of information that is fully or partially verified before the next torture secession so the harshness of that secession can be adjusted in accordance with the actual veracity of any information received. That's not so hard is it?
And so the Democrat cortege continues. They have no real basis for any of their positions, especially after the collapse of Marxism, but they persist anyway in torturing and cozening America out of habit, greed, ignorance, and power lust, or so it seems.
