WHY MEN EARN MORE

Actually it is a Liberal Democratic Socialist myth that men earn more. But how could such an obvious myth prevail in modern America? It prevails simply because discrimination fits perfectly with the anti American world view of Democrats. The view that America is an evil place that discriminates against women by paying them only 76% of what is paid to men is somehow very pleasurable to them, although oddly ironic in that their so called sensitivity and caring about women and all living things, including the environment, enables them to so easily and quickly hate their own country.

The Democrats teach us to hate primarily men, Republicans, and capitalism. Capitalism is seen as the ultimate evil manifestation of manly Republicanism. In reality though it is the discovery and use of the gentle, loving hand of capitalism that has enabled humankind to make more progress in the last 200 than in the previous 20,000. And, it is precisely the vehicle that in just the last 30 years has enabled women to rise from near total unemployment to full employment with equal or greater pay. It has been a near instantaneous miracle of incredible proportions the likes of which no human being in any place, in any century would have dared even dream possible without capitalism. And of course the Democrats object.

Even, at Harvard University, which now boasts fewer communist professors on its faculty than at any time since Das Kapital was first published, some economists are forced by the painfully obvious logic of capitalism to teach, in their micro -economics classes, that capitalism makes wage discrimination against women and other minorities virtually impossible, and that by extension, that Democratic liberal economic systems, characterized by gov't control, huge bureaucracies, and reduced competition are more likely to encourage discrimination.

The simple micro economic theory goes like this: if women do equal work for less pay, then all you have to do is hire them to reduce your costs below those of your competition, and you'll drive your competition out of business and get filthy rich very fast. If you don't believe wage costs are important, ask those who lost their jobs to Mexico and now to China and India.

It is true that an average man makes significantly more than an average woman, but this is because, contrary to what many liberals would have us believe, men and women are actually different. Some women, for example, stay home to raise children. This reduces their average wage. But, if you compare men and women who have been in the labor market for exactly the same number of years, in the same industry, you find that women actually earn a little more than men. Also, you find that women and men, being different, accordingly seek out different kinds of work and different work environments. For example, men get 95% of the Ph.D's in computer science and engineering while women get a similar percentage in lower paying, psychology. Men will be deep sea divers, offshore oil workers, garbagemen, and North Sea fishermen while women will cluster and compete around lower paid librarian, teacher, store clerk, and office worker jobs where the environment is safe, clean, and predictable, and the hours are regular daytime hours. Even AOL, in a rare politically incorrect moment , reported that MBA women from top schools pick feminine jobs that may not pay as well: "while women chose Consumer Goods, the third most popular choice for men. Women ranked the Fashion/Apparel and Entertainment/Media as number one."

In the end, Adam Smith's invisible regulatory hand of capitalism is on the job 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in every business, in every transaction , everywhere in America, trying to discovery the first tiny traces of discrimination in order that they be eliminated. It is infinitely more precise, nimble, and effective than the big dumb bureaucratic Soviet style regulation the Democrats still urge on us. Sadly for Democrats, Republican capitalism seems extremely sensitive to and far more capable of protecting women's rights than clumsy Democrats who seemingly lack the brain power to understand what's just happened right under their noses.
