Once upon a time there was ingenious man named Lord Acton who said, "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely." This of course represents the idea of freedom from gov't corruption and its necessary antecedent: power, around which the Jeffersonian Republicans solidified the meaning of our country, and made it, easily, the greatest country in the history of humanity. The Democrats of course never liked the American idea of freedom. Their credo has always been: power is sweet; absolute power is absolutely sweet. Since the 19th Century they have always wanted higher taxes and more powerful, corrupt gov't. It is their reason for being, without which they would not have one single deceitful word to say to the electorate.
Probably the best recent example of this tragic phenomenon is the prescription drug bill. Virtually everyone agrees that spending $800 Billion over the next 10 years, given an already huge and seemingly impervious deficit, is wildly irresponsible. But this did not stop the Democrats from fighting it tooth and nail in favor of an even more expensive and irresponsible bill that would enable them to go to their constituents and say, in effect, "see, we have made the gov't more powerful, and more subject to corruption, than the Republicans; so please vote for us. Indeed, this is the entire history the of 200 year old Democratic war on American freedom.
It is sad and tragic to see the Democratic glee at the current scandals which seem to involve far more Republicans than Democrats. The Democrats are apparently praying that the electorate will blame the scandals on Republicans, and then elect Democrats, not realizing that Democrats will increase the power of gov't and thereby increase the likelihood of future corruption in both Parties and all over the gov't.
The current Abramoff scandal is a Democratic tragicomedy for sure. The scandal really consists of corrupt, filthy rich, and incompetent Indians (originally enriched by the Gov't) trying to buy legislation with $50 Million, to become even filthier and richer through gambling. As it turned out the money from the Indians was used to enrich Abramoff, and most noticeably, to buy a European golf outing for a Congressman who might then have felt inclined to do something for Abramoff in return. Yes, the gov't was corrupt, but not as massively corrupt as the Indians thought or hoped it was.
As long as the Democrats further and further empower the gov't to give the Indians gambling, and the rest of us free prescription drugs, the likelihood of corruption, to say nothing of monopolistic inefficiency, will grow further and further. Lord Acton knew this 100 years ago, Thomas Jefferson knew it 200 years ago, but the Democrats still don't know it, and sadly don't have the intelligence to ever know it.

Very interesting tactic by blaming Republican cronism and corruption on Democrats. I did not understand your train of thought on this subject, but I guess desperate times call for desperate measures. I am not sure I understand the your statements regarding Democrats attacking American freedoms. It has been Democrats who have championed freedoms in this country for decades and surprisingly enough, Republicans are lining up like sheep to support the Bush administrations recent violations of law by illegally wiretapping American citizens. This party is so tightly controlled, even Republicans who disagree with this administration on various topics are forced into line. I feel bad for you guys.

*******no. I was blaming corruption on Democrats because they insist on a larger and larger gov't which is more and more subject to corruption.
I did not understand your train of thought on this subject, but I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.
*******these are desperate measures? How can they be desperate if you don't even understand them? You have to understand something before you can label it
I am not sure I understand your statements regarding Democrats attacking American freedoms.
********simple, the more gov't the less freedom. What would we be free of if not gov't?? Do you ever wonder why they say America is about freedom?
It has been Democrats who have championed freedoms in this country for decades
********if that was true of course you'd have an example
and surprisingly enough, Republicans are lining up like sheep to support the Bush administrations recent violations of law by illegally wiretapping American citizens.
******if it were illegal, obviously they'd arrest him, impeach him, etc.
This party is so tightly controlled, even Republicans who disagree with this administration on various topics are forced into line.
*********if so you'd have examples
I feel bad for you guys.
*******you did not say why?
