Last week the new Prime Minister of Iraq, Iyad Allawi, came to town and talked about, among many things, how discouraging all the negativity in America was to his efforts to build a free democratic Iraq. Kerry, for example, has said, its the wrong war at the wrong time in the wrong place. Does anyone think this is disheartening to our troops in the field? Of course it is! After all, if its the wrong war perhaps we should stop fighting it and let the enemy win. What more could our enemies want in a Commander-In- Chief than John Kerry?
But, if Kerry is against the war isn't he also against out troops? If you're struggling to, say, earn a Ph.D., support a family, win a war, or climb a mountain how helpful is to have someone say: you don't really need that Ph.D. or to win that war or to climb that mountain or support your family? So, in a very real way Kerry is doing, again, exactly what he did in Vietnam, and our troops, again, are directly and indirectly paying the price.
Today the brilliant Democrat, Krugman of the NYTIMES, said , "Exhibit A is, of course, Osama bin Laden, whom Mr. Bush promised to get "dead or alive," then dropped from his speeches after a botched operation at Tora Bora let him get away." So, the poor dumb American troops botched the job according to Krugman? Does anyone really think Krugman and the liberals like the military? Of course not, they are the willing and complicit instruments of the macho Republican fanaticism that wants freedom for Iraq. And, the other day, the marvelously self assured Senator Biden of Delaware, said Kerry couldn't say what he was going to do because he didn't know what he would inherit come January, but, he said, if it continues to deteriorate he'll have to begin to figure a way out of there. Again this must be really discouraging to all who are, daily, risking their lives to build a free Iraq much the way our founding father risked theirs to build the country that has has been as Ronald Reagan said "the last best hope for freedom on earth?"
Instead, could the liberals be a patriotic opposition? Of course, but it is not in their blood. They could present a clear simple exit strategy and time line, or they could present a clear simple path to victory, and they could stop running the Commander-In-Chief and his troops down while they are dying and bleeding daily on the battlefield.
